Meadowbrook Interact Club fights Polio
"Purple Pinkie" fundraiser held Friday at high school

A group of Meadowbrook High School students are banding together to fight Polio in third-world countries.
Members of the Meadowbrook Interact Club - the youth arm of the Byesville Rotary Club - held a "Purple Pinkie" Fundraiser on Friday afternoon to help wipe out the crippling disease in the few remaining countries where Polio is endemic. Interact Club President Alex Eckelson answered the question "Why Purple Pinkies?":



Club Advisor Sharon Miller said that, last year, the Interact Club donated more than $300 to Rotary International, which will provide around 300 vaccines for children in Afghanistan, Nigeria, and Pakistan, where Polio remains endemic.
Since 1985, Rotary Club International has contributed to the effort that has eliminated Polio in 99 percent of the world's children.

Spring Food Drive is a rousing success

Spring Food Drive a great success on Saturday
Area service clubs collected 600+ bags of groceries

Members of several area service clubs say that they were overwhelmed by the success of a Saturday food drive held in Cambridge.
The Cambridge and Byesville Rotary Clubs, Cambridge Kiwanis Club, and Cambridge Lions and Lionesses Clubs sponsored the Spring Food Drive to restock area pantries before the Easter holiday. Cambridge Rotarian Joe Farrell reports that more than 600 pre-made bags of goods were purchased at Riesbeck's and Wal-Mart on Saturday - in fact, when all the ready-prepared bags were donated half-way through the drive, both supermarkets had to scramble to put more together.
All donations were distributed to the Salvation Army and Feed My People, as well as the Pleasant City, Byesville, and Stop Nine Church of Christ food pantries.
Farrell said all of the service clubs offered their sincere thanks to the community members who made donations, and the volunteers who helped load the vans and distribute the groceries.
